Videotheorien - Ein transdisziplinärer Überblick

Das Medium Video ist heute omnipräsent, aber die Videotheorie gehört bisher nicht zu den universitär etablierten Disziplinen. Im Vergleich zu den zahlreichen Publikationen zur Foto-, Film- und Fernsehtheorie fällt auf, dass bisher kein Überblick zur Videotheorie als Grundlage für Forschung und Lehre vorliegt. Die Publikation nimmt erstmals eine Bestandsaufnahme und Synthese der bestehenden disparaten Theorien vor. Die vorgestellten Theoriepositionen entstammen den Kontexten von Medientheorie, Medienarchäologie, Kunsttheorie, Philosophie, Soziologie, Kulturwissenschaft, Psychotherapie, Ethnologie, Theaterwissenschaft, Forensik, Social Geography, Surveillance Studies, Gender Studies. Zwölf thematische Kapitel bieten eine transdisziplinäre Einführung zu fünfzig Jahren wissenschaftlicher, künstlerischer und politischer Reflektionen über das Medium. Given the numerous publications on photographic, film, and television theory, the absence of any overview of video theory as a basis for research and teaching is a striking omission. This is the first book to undertake an inventory and synthesis of the disparate theories that currently exist. The theoretical positions that are presented here derive from the realms of media theory, media archaeology, art theory, philosophy, sociology, cultural studies, psychotherapy, ethnology, theatre studies, forensics, social geography, surveillance studies, and gender studies. Divided into twelve chapters on different themes, the book provides a transdisciplinary introduction to fifty years of scholarly, artistic, and political reflections on the medium. Dieter Daniels is professor of art history and media theory at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB) and was a GRC fellow with the project "Transdisciplinary Video Theory" at the Gutenberg Research College in Mainz from October 2017 to February 2020. Jan Thoben is head of the Sound Studies and Sonic Arts programme at Berlin University of the Arts and was a research associate with the project "Transdisciplinary Video Theory" at the Gutenberg Research College in Mainz from October 2017 to February 2020.
